I have a sunny yellow plate lavishly decorated by Mary Englebreit with the slogan, “Just for today, be happy.” It’s good advice and I hope it is evident to my children that I strive to follow it  (although I think what I need is a plate that says, “Just for today, be patient!).  A woman with a smile blesses everyone, especially those who love her and want her to be happy.

It shouldn’t be my children’ s responsibility to worry about whether or not their mother is happy. They may see that I am tired or frustrated but I hope they see that, in general, their mother is a happy and joyful woman.

It can be a bit of a challenge to put on a smile (especially in the morning when no one wants to drag themselves out of bed) but it’s worth the effort. Put on a happy face! Choose joy.
